Mental health programs are counselling and treatment services offered by professionals such as psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, doctors, nurses, and spiritual advisors. Mental health professionals work with you, your family, and the rest of your health care providers to help manage the symptoms and side effects of cancer and its treatment, facilitate communication, provide information, and offer practical, emotional, and spiritual support. Mental health professionals may treat emotional effects of cancer using psychotherapy, psychiatric medications, or a combination of both.
