What is Home Care?

Home care refers to a variety of health and social services that you can receive in your own residence. Most people who have a terminal illness would prefer to die at home. If that’s your wish, home care will provide you and your caregivers with the practical support that can make it possible.

Types of Home Care Services

Health and social services that you can receive at home include:

  • medical care, nursing care, and palliative care
  • personal care (help with eating, bathing, grooming, toileting, and getting around)
  • housekeeping (light house cleaning, laundry, and meal preparation)
  • caregiver support and respite care (to educate and assist your family)
  • companionship (including friendly visiting and security checks)

Other services may include transportation to medical appointments, errands like grocery shopping and banking, and home maintenance and yard work.
